Personal Background

Chery M. Jones is the daughter of Rosalynne Jones and Logan Wilkinson, born on July 15, 1985 in Newark, New Jersey. She is the youngest of seven; four sisters and two brothers. Chery Jones excelled in elementary and middle school, graduating eighth grade at the top of her class as Salutatorian, revealing her high academics and social popularity within Link Community School. This lead to her acceptance into Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, NJ, where she received an academic scholarship to fund her tuition for four years at the Catholic School. In the fall of 2003, Chery was accepted into Fairleigh Dickinson University (Teaneck campus), where she also received grants and academic scholarships to fund her education there. In fall of 2004 Chery transferred to New Jersey City University, in pursuit of a career in Art Therapy, where she successfully completed the Bachelor’s Degree Program. In the summer of 2008, Chery graduated from New Jersey City University, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Art:focusing on Art Therapy.

In her journey to master Art Therapy, Chery was also intent on mastering her own artistic talent; learning new technique to apply to her personal artwork. Inspired by her life drawing classes, Chery began a new series, creating abstract drawing and paintings. These art pieces incorporated human figures and conceptual imagery, which depicted emotions from her experiences during college. Chery realized that her art was the therapy that pulled her through life’s trials. Throughout college, Chery worked as a freelance artist, selling her personal artworks and graphic designs. In 2008, Chery developed a digital art portfolio of her Art Collections: Tribulation, Tranquility, Fantasy & Play, Figure Drawing, and Redeemed. After graduation, in 2008, Chery worked for non-profit organizations and financial services. In 2009, she decided to start an online printing and graphic design business. In January 2010, Allure International Design Studio was formed.

First Art Experience

As a child Chery was gifted in the arts, visual arts (drawing and later painting) and in performing arts (writing stories and poetry, and later praise/liturgical, modern, and african dancing). Chery began drawing at the age of five, trained by her father Logan Wilkinson. “I remember sitting at the kitchen table with a pencil and drawing paper. My father entered the room with a Comic Book. I can’t remember which one but I remember him saying, “I want you to focus and draw what you see (pointing to the character in the comic book).” He laid the Comic book flat on the table and watched as I attempted to draw each line, to recreate the character in the book. My father didn’t believe in tracing, so it wasn’t easy trying to master distance and size within a drawing. Yet, even if the lines were crooked or the picture wasn’t exact, he was always pleased with the results, showing me techniques on how to perfect my drawings. Although, you may have figured it out by now, yes my father was an artist. In our house hung charcoal drawings and paintings of my sister and I as babies. Unfortunately, I only have a memory of this. When my father passed all items in his house were dispersed, I did not have a say in what happened to the items in his house, and so I do not have a copy of his works. Yes, I’ve tried to locate his paintings but have not been success in my search. However, I did have the opportunity to meet others who knew my father and speak highly of his work and I've inherited his artistic talent. I’ve always wished I had more time to learn from my father, but I am grateful for the time we spent together. I will never forget the art fundamentals he laid before me. His legacy will live on,” says Chery in her remembrance of one of her first art experiences.

Chery’s father, Logan Wilkinson became deceased in 1993, due to a car accident near his home. Chery was merely eight years old, but decided to perfect her art in honor of her father. “My father taught all of his children to draw, I was the youngest, so most of his last days of life were spent teaching me after school. My family said I would become an art teacher, but as a kid I dreamt of becoming a prosperous artist, traveling around the world, and presenting my art in famous galleries. I wanted to create an art business that would become a family legacy, in honor of my father. Currently I've expanded this dream into a vision, creating Allure's 5-year plan. This would lead Allure to a financial success and teach other young artists how to allow their talents to make a way for them.” Chery is truly an inspiration to the youth of her generation and has always involved herself in community service. Allure International Design Studio will be a means to increase her community outreach on a much larger scale.
